Marius Borg Høiby, the 28-year-old son of Norway Crown Princess Mette-Marit, was sentenced to four years in prison on Monday after a court in Oslo convicted him of rape, domestic violence, and multiple other criminal offences.
The verdict marks the culmination of a high-profile trial that has gripped Norway and placed the royal family under intense public scrutiny. Høiby, who is the stepson of Crown Prince Haakon, had pleaded not guilty to all charges.
What the Court Found

The Oslo District Court found Høiby guilty of raping a woman at his residence in 2024, along with multiple counts of physical assault against former partners. The court also convicted him on charges of making threats and violating restraining orders.
Prosecutors had sought a five-year sentence, citing the severity and pattern of the offences. The defence argued for acquittal, claiming the relationships were consensual and the allegations fabricated.
Royal Family Response
The Norwegian Royal Palace issued a brief statement: "The Crown Princess and Crown Prince respect the court decision. This is a deeply painful matter for the family, and they ask for privacy."
Høiby legal team has indicated they will appeal the verdict. He was taken into custody immediately after the sentencing.
