What Alexa+ Brings to India
Alexa+ is Amazon's generative AI-powered upgrade to its original voice assistant. Unlike the previous version, Alexa+ can maintain context across conversations, understand follow-up questions without requiring the wake word, and perform multi-step tasks. For Indian users, the Hindi language support goes beyond simple translation — Alexa+ has been trained on Hindi dialects and regional variations, including Hinglish code-switching (mixing Hindi and English in the same sentence), which is the most common speech pattern among urban Indian users.
The Smart Home Opportunity in India
India's smart home market is projected to reach $6.5 billion by 2027, with voice assistants serving as the primary interface for smart home control. Amazon already holds a significant lead in India's smart speaker market through its existing Echo devices.
